Station Life
On my travels back to Perth from Broome in the North of Western Australia, I stayed awhile at my friends working Cattle Station ‘Yalleen’, near Pannawonica.
Being located in the Pilbara Region on the famous Robe River and close to the Fortescue River where bird life abounds, there’s loads of culturally significant places to visit. It is rugged and beautiful. Being now predominantly taken over by mining, the area still has strong roots to the cattle industry with the holding of the Pannawonica Rodeo and Camp draft annually.
“Giralia” Station was my next stopover and is now a significant tourist destination, based on the beautiful coast near Exmouth, it was once a significant sheep station originally taken up in 1888.
